Mid-Century Style Chairs FAQs

What does mid-century modern mean, and what defines this collection?

Mid-century modern is a design movement that flourished roughly between the 1940s and 1970s, defined by clean lines, organic forms, minimal ornamentation, and a considered use of both natural and industrial materials. The pieces in this collection are inspired by some of the most enduring designs to emerge from that period. Each has been interpreted with premium contemporary materials, bringing the same sense of purposeful, lasting design into modern homes and spaces.

What types of chair are included in this collection?

This is our broadest collection, spanning lounge chairs and ottomans, dining chairs, armchairs, tulip-style swivel chairs, Bauhaus tubular steel accent chairs, natural rattan and cane chairs, mid-century style office swivel chairs, and meeting room chairs. Whether you are furnishing a living room, dining room, home office, or commercial space, the range is designed to offer both character and longevity.

What materials are used across this collection?

Depending on the piece, our mid-century chairs are constructed from FSC-certified hardwoods including oak, ash, and walnut, genuine top-grain and waxed aniline leathers, natural rattan and cane, and tubular chrome steel. Fabric options on selected models include Camira wool, 100% cashmere, and hemp-linen blends. We do not use faux or bonded leather on any product in our range - every upholstered piece uses real, premium leather.

Can I see a leather swatch before I order?

Of course - colour and texture can look quite different on screen compared with the real thing, and for a piece you will live with every day, that decision deserves confidence. Email us at sales@onske.co.uk with your postal address and the shades you are considering, and we will send free leather swatches out to you by post.

Can a chair be made to order in a bespoke colour or fabric?

Many pieces in this collection can be produced in a bespoke upholstery choice, including leather shades and fabrics not listed online - such as Camira wool, cashmere, and hemp-linen blends. Bespoke orders carry a production lead time of approximately 12 to 14 weeks from our factories. Get in touch to discuss your requirements and we will advise on what is available for the specific piece you have in mind.

Are these chairs suitable for commercial or hospitality use?

Many pieces from this collection can be adapted for use in hotels, restaurants, offices, and commercial interiors across the UK. We supply to interior designers, architects, developers, and hospitality clients, and we offer volume discounts and bespoke commercial quotations for larger projects.
